The Magnificient South India
Day 01:
Flight to Chennai.
After being welcomed at the airport check into the hotel.
Day 02:
Chennai
Start your day with a
sightseeing tour of Chennai, formerly Madras. The port city is located in
southeast India on the Coromandel Coast. Chennai, a phenomenal example of the
peaceful coexistence of modernity and tradition, each complementing one another
in a fine balance. Chennai tours help you explore this metropolis of Chennai in
its different manifestations. Chennai was once a major center of the British
Empire in India. Of Chennai's two thousand years of history still testify to
the ancient temples of the city. We show first the Government Museum, the
National Art Gallery and the Temple of the 16th Kapaleeshwarar Then drive past
century Fort George, the famous Marina Beach and the St. Thomas Cathedral. This
was built in honor of the Apostle Thomas, who was said to be in India.
Day 03:
Chennai - Pondicherry
A four-hour drive
south along the coast takes us to Pondicherry, the capital of the former French
colony. Nested in the southern region of India between lush greens and the Bay
of Bengal is the former French colony of puducherry. The magnificent statues of
Joseph Francois Dupleix and Joan of Arc, the warrior saint of France tell of a
significant French influence on the history of the place.With the spacious
waterfront Goubert Salai, which was restored after the devastation of the
tsunami in 2004, "Pondi" a jewel of colonial architecture represents
Pondicherry worldwide established by the 1926 Aurobindo Ashram and the nearby
Auroville was known. We will visit the ashram of Sri Aurobindo, the father of
the "integral yoga," and the colonial city of Auroville.
Day 04:
Pondicherry - Swamimalai
Next trip would be to
south to Swamimalai. En route visit the famous temple of "Dancing
Shiva", Chidambaram. The Shiva temple is one of the oldest and holiest of
southern India. Here is the once mythical dance between Shiva and Parvati took
place. In the world-famous Thousand Pillar Hall there are actually 999 ornate
pillars plus one representing Shiva's leg. On the way we stop at a small temple
in Gangaikondacholapuram whose high Vimana tower is decorated with hundreds of
colorful statues of gods.
Day 05:
Swamimalai - Tanjore
Drive to Tanjavur.
Thanjavur district capital with more than 200,000 inhabitants, which lies about
310 km south of Madras on the upper end of the Cauvery delta is densely
populated, extremely rich in historic sights and the surrounding fertile. The
Indians named the area around Thanjavur as the "rice bowl" of south
India. Be impressed here by the investment of Brihadeshvara Temple. This temple
was built in the 11th symmetric Century built to impress with its fantastic
stone carving on the gopurams, the temple towers, and the 5-meter-high granite
Nandi bull. It has been the treasure house of art for centuries the magnificent
palace, Rajah Serfoji's Saraswathi Mahal Library, Art Gallery and also for its
exquisite handicrafts like the Art Plate, pithwork, bronze icons.
Day 06:
Tanjore - Trichy - Tanjore
Further inland, about
55 km from Thanjavur, Trichy is the district capital. The first thing that
strikes one in Trichy, is the enormous Rock Fort Temple, from where you can
enjoy spectacular views over the city. The early cave temple on the flanks of
the rock well worth a visit. In particular, the area surrounding the city is
rich in art historical sites that you can visit us. Tiruchy is a fine blend of
tradition and modernity built around the Rock Fort. Apart from the fort, there
are several churches colleges and missions dating back to the 1760s. With its
excellent infrastructure facilities, Tiruchy will serve as a good base to see
central Tamilnadu. Srirangam is one of the largest and most interesting temple
complexes in India, the Ranghanatha Temple. The first temple of this plant was
built in the 10th century. Since that time the place was the center of Vaishnavism,
and is now the largest Vishnu temple in South India. Return trip to Tanjore for
night stay.
Day 07:
Tanjore - Madurai
Drive to Madurai, the
cultural capital of the state of Tamil Nadu. Here was the Dravidian culture
culminating in art and architecture, as expressed in particular in the famous
Menakshi Temple. The capacity with up to 10,000 pilgrims a dayis one of the
most visited pilgrimage centres in South India. The temple towers are covered
from top to bottom in a breathtaking profusion of different colored images of
gods, animals and mythical figures. In the daily evening ceremony you can see
how God Shiva is carried in the bedroom of his wife Menakshi. One will
experience the evening ceremony in the temple.
Day 08:
Madurai
Visit to the Sri Meenakshi
Sundareswarar Temple with its five huge, figurines decorated gate towers. In
the famous temple from early morning until late at night, there is lively,
bustling, constantly meet a new group of pilgrims who had some weeks to arrive.
Subsequently one must go to the airy palace Tirumallai Nayak with his

Day 09:
Madurai - Periyar
After a scenic trip
through the magical landscape to reach the Periyar National Park.At Herb garden

Day 10:
Periyar - Kumarakom (Backwaters)
In the early morning
you can expect an exciting boat ride on the Periyar National Park Reservoir.
With a little luck you can watch Gaure (Indian bison), sambar and wild
elephants. After breakfast at hotel, drive on curvy track with impressive views
through coffee and tea plantations. Maybe you can watch tea pickers at harvest.
Afternoon you arrive at your lovely resort in the backwaters of Kerala. Enjoy a
romantic cruise on the lake Vembanand into the sunset.
Day 11:
Kumrakom - Cherai Beach Resort (near Cochin)
Drive to Cochin, where
our local guide shows you the most important sights: the Chinese fishing nets,
the Jewish Synagogue, the Dutch Palace, Portuguese architecture and Bolghatty
Palace. You can also browse in the small antique shops and there may spot the
occasional treasure. Continue to Cherai Beach Resort. The location of the
resort is so unique, because behind the resort backwaters and the Arabian Sea
in front of the resort is. Fantastically beautiful.
Day 12:
Cherai Beach Resort
The entire day is at
leisure. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and let the impressions of the trip on
you.
Day 13: Cochin - Chennai or Bangalore
Drive to the airport and flight to Cochin either Chennai or Bangalore. Next flight home. Namaste!
